FE is made up of 2 key stage 5 classes with the teachers Maxine Skipper and Lee Robinson. They are a mixed-ability group of students aged 16 to 19. The classes are run with a college approach to learning, with a more relaxed atmosphere than the rest of the school. All students have access to different levels of accreditation through either OCR Life and Living Skills or City and Guilds Functional Skills at entry levels. They also access TITAN (Road Safety Scheme). These units enable the students to access the wider community as frequently as possible to develop their independence skills and life skills.
Trips to various community facilities in the area are used to provide evidence for the units completed throughout the year. We have visited local leisure facilities in the past, Caister Library, local shops and cafes and at Christmas have all gone for lunch at a local restaurant. We use our links with TITAN to use the local bus network to get around and this helps some of our pupils work towards independent travel.
The leavers have a very busy, but fulfilling year. The visits to colleges and other provisions are completed, decisions made and applications finished. They complete their progress files for the leavers’ celebrations.
